Come Talk To Us!

On Monday June 29, Director Jennifer Maytorena Taylor will be joined by Hamza Pérez for a live chat at the fabulous Firedog Lake Book Salon with La Figa.

We’ll be on-line for 90 full minutes of question and answer time, starting at 8pm East Coast, 5 pm West Coast.  Please bring your thoughts, comments, questions, criticisms, praises, what-have-you — and we’ll look forward to talking to you!

After two fantastic premieres at Lincoln Center and with Rooftop Films at Museo del Barrio, we had a beautiful experience sharing the national broadcast premiere of the film with Imam Talib, Felipe Luciano, Popmaster Fabel, and many of the other wonderful folks who came to see the film together at the Mosque of Islamic Brotherhood in Harlem.

We’ve been overwhelmed by (mostly) positive comments and look forward to constructive dialogue around some of the less positive ones.  This is what this project is all about - to get people talking to each other in our open society, so thanks to everyone who has expressed a thought or opinion.

The film is still being broadcast around the country and for a limited time can be seen online at P.O.V.’s website.  And if you like the film and would like to support our work, please go to our on-line store to pre-order a copy of the HOME VIDEO DVD.  It’s got 40 minutes of extra features and the proceeds will support our interfaith youth campus and prison screening tour later this year.

Night of the National Debut

I’m at the Mosque of Islamic Brotherhood in Harlem getting ready to have a Recession-Buster Film Festival Night of Broadcast Watch Party with some of the diverse community members who helped us make this film. It’s been an amazing few months of introducing NEW MUSLIM COOL to folks around the country and world - we’ve all learned a lot, made new friends, and we can’t wait for what comes next!

Make sure to check your local listings at P.O.V.’s website to see for sure when the film will show on your local station and thank you for tuning in!  We’ll have TONS more to announce right after the broadcast premiere.

Toronto, Atlanta, Chicago and more

Lots going on as we count down to our Washington, DC and NYC premieres and national broadcast!  We just had a wonderful premiere screening at the Noor Cultural Centre in Toronto, as the opening night feature of their three-day film festival called Our Home and Native Land?

We continue with another Canadian screening at the University of Toronto tonight, while the film also shows in Atlanta, Georgia and Chicago.   And apropos of our presentation here in Toronto, the Globe and Mail runs a front-page story today about a young Canadian Muslim woman getting ready for her prom.

Just flew back from Pittsburgh (and boy are my arms tired)

Just back from a fantastic weekend of screenings in Pittsburgh with Pittsburgh Filmmakers, Crossing Limits, and the First Unitarian Church.  We also showed the film at the county jail and held an intense discussion session with the chaplain staff and several inmates, focusing on finding positive ways to deal with setbacks and taking personal accountability.

Next up the film will be screening in San Francisco, Atlanta, and Toronto!
