Positive Reviews Keep Coming
Here’s a really nice review from Rumpus.net and reviewer Jeremy Hatch, who really picked up on the main themes of spiritual growth and positive solutions to negative situations. Thanks Jeremy!

NEW MUSLIM COOL on NBC NY
We stopped by Rockefeller Plaza this morning for a great interview and short live M-Team performance on NBC’s Weekend Today in New York show. We all looked for Kenneth the Page but it must have been his day off!

Cool Al Jazeera Story on NMC
Al Jazeera filed this very cool report on the night of our national broadcast debut on PBS. We were gathered at the Mosque of Islamic Brotherhood in Harlem for a screening and discussion hosted by Imam Talib Abdur Rasheed and special guest Felipe Luciano.

NMC on Weekend Today in NYC August 2
Wow, we are going to be on NBC’s Weekend Today show on Sunday August 2 at 8 am. Producer/director Jennifer Maytorena Taylor and Hamza and Suliman Perez will talk about the incredibly positive community responses to NEW MUSLIM COOL as the film continues to show all across the country and world.
And perhaps for the first time ever that a Puerto Rican American Muslim hip-hop duo will perform on live tv, M-Team will perform LIVE for the NYC! The show will air LIVE in the NYC area and we’ll have it up on-line as fast as we can for folks in other parts of the country!

Streaming on PBS Extended by Popular Demand
We’ve had such strong interest in the film from national media (major announcement about that coming soon) and audiences alike, that P.O.V. and PBS have decided to extend the streaming for another few weeks. So from now until August 20, you can still log onto the P.O.V. website and check the film out.
If you do watch the film on-line for free, please consider buying the DVD for yourself or a friend, or for your community group to do a free screening.
With Ramadan coming up, NEW MUSLIM COOL will make a fantastic Eid gift and interfaith dialogue tool, and your support will help us launch our upcoming campus and jail screening tour and outreach campaign. We’re also donating a portion of each DVD sale to the community in Pittsburgh where we shot the film so your support will go extra far!

Hamza on Global Grind
We’ve been getting great press and blog coverage all over the world, thank you to all for covering the film and giving us so many positive reviews!
And now here is a really nice essay that Hamza himself just wrote for Russell Simmons’ website and hip-hop news portal Global Grind.

We’ve Launched!

Lincoln Center's Marion Masone with Jennifer Maytorena Taylor, Kauthar Umar, Suad Abdul-Khabeer, and Zaheer Ali
After two fantastic premieres at Lincoln Center and with Rooftop Films at Museo del Barrio, we had a beautiful experience sharing the national broadcast premiere of the film with Imam Talib, Felipe Luciano, Popmaster Fabel, and many of the other wonderful folks who came to see the film together at the Mosque of Islamic Brotherhood in Harlem.
We’ve been overwhelmed by (mostly) positive comments and look forward to constructive dialogue around some of the less positive ones. This is what this project is all about - to get people talking to each other in our open society, so thanks to everyone who has expressed a thought or opinion.

The film is still being broadcast around the country and for a limited time can be seen online at P.O.V.’s website. And if you like the film and would like to support our work, please go to our on-line store to pre-order a copy of the HOME VIDEO DVD. It’s got 40 minutes of extra features and the proceeds will support our interfaith youth campus and prison screening tour later this year.

Night of the National Debut
I’m at the Mosque of Islamic Brotherhood in Harlem getting ready to have a Recession-Buster Film Festival Night of Broadcast Watch Party with some of the diverse community members who helped us make this film. It’s been an amazing few months of introducing NEW MUSLIM COOL to folks around the country and world - we’ve all learned a lot, made new friends, and we can’t wait for what comes next!
Make sure to check your local listings at P.O.V.’s website to see for sure when the film will show on your local station and thank you for tuning in! We’ll have TONS more to announce right after the broadcast premiere.
